Carlo Borer’s vision of our common future is coloured in dark shades.
We all remember the giant heart, struggling to beat and needing to be supported by
an enormous external machine or the enormous lungs encased in containers, symbo-
lising the depletion and degradation of the air around us and the limitation of space.
For this new exhibition, the artist’s anxieties are of a different order. Using a graph
produced by the United Nations of world demographic projections as his founda-
tion, Carlo Borer has constructed a three-dimensional object reminding a hurricane,
shaped by time.

LE FUTUR EST DÉJÀ LÀ, NOUS SOMMES TOUS DES ALIENS
La vision que Carlo Borer porte sur notre avenir commun se décline souvent en teintes
sombres. On se souvient en effet de ce cœur géant qui peine à trouver son rythme
et doit être aidé par une machine externe et de ces énormes poumons enchâssés
dans des containeurs symbolisant la raréfaction et la dégradation de l’air ambiant.
Pour cette nouvelle exposition, les angoisses de l’artiste sont d’un autre ordre. Par-
tant d’un graphique produit par les Nations-Unies sur les projections démogra-
phiques mondiales, Carlo Borer construit une oeuvre en forme d’ouragan façonné
par le temps.
