Description

Helen Vergouwen – Born in 1960 – Lives and work in Rucphen – The Netherlands

This beautiful small sized sculpture ( 39 x 6 x 9 cm) is a creation from Helen Vergouwen.

The strenght with which Helen Vergouwen articulates curved and angular forms, solids and voids in space, makes no concessions to expressionism or to the cold aestheticism of the minimal art. Bringing into play notions of strength, mass and balance, sometimes even seeking to escape the constraints of gravity, Helen Vergouwen’s abstract assemblages are sometimes reminiscent of those of an Eduardo Chillida. However, their conception responds to a more marked desire for rationalisation and, as such, they have an undeniable architectural dimension. This is particularly true of her metal “signs”, whose verticality and constructed character are very strong.
